Coming together in support for Cora Fort and family

We made it home!

Well, we made it back to Washington! Last night after we returned from the limo ride, mom got busy packing. Dad and I had to go and pick up prescriptions, and mom seemed fine, so we left for about 45 minutes. When dad returned, mom was so sick she couldn’t open the door for him. She had been violently throwing up the nearly the whole time we were gone .We were advised to take her to the ER, but mom didn’t want to risk being admitted, and not getting to come home today, so she wanted to see how she felt in the morning. Luckily all went well.

Now is the tough part. According to the doctors, things will get worse for about 2 weeks, and then she will start to heal. Normally patients stay for a while after treatment ends, but mom really wanted to come home.

Mom did pretty well on the plane ride home. Let me just say now, Continental Airlines has been a pleasure to work with. They got mom and dad seats together even though there were “none available”. They were very good with mom, letting her use the 1st Class bathroom. And they checked back a lot to make sure she was doing ok.

Thanks to Uncle Johnny who picked us up at the gate even!

When we arrived home, there was a wonderful surprise waiting for us, courtesy of Shelley and Rachael. I will post pictures tomorrow. They decorated mom and dad’s house with welcome back signs, and welcome home banners, and balloons, and even a live flower cake…(great thinking, since mom can’t eat!!!) Mom was so happy she was in tears. Shelley and Rachael have been the coordinators of a weekly “care package” which I hand carried to mom and dad every week. The package was full o letters, and daily envelopes for them to open, and religious artifacts, books, and well wishes from so many people. It was the highlight of mom and dad’s week.

I will be staying at the house with them to give dad a break here and there. Mom is still immuno-suppressed, so she isn’t supposed to have visitors, especially those who have been around children, or exposed to other’s who are sick.

They can receive message’s through the guestbook on the website, or at

6913 Bridgland Lane
Tacoma, Wa, 98407

In lieu of flowers, mom and dad are very thankful, but ask that you donate to the hurricane katrina relief fund instead.

Thank you again for all of your thoughts and prayers… we could not have done this without all of your support!!!!!!!

Thelma and I

Thelma is the owner of what is widely known as the Best BBQ in Houston. Faetured on the Food Network, and winner of many awards. I didn’t know it was Thelma, until I asked, “How long have you worked here?”

She replied, ” I’m Thelma!”

Mom finished!

Well it was an amazing day. It was mom’s last treatment in radiation. When we got there, there were two nurses from other departments waiting with birthday gifts for mom. Then it was so funny…we kept running into people that knew mom and wished her happy birthday, or said congratulations on finishing.

I think the employees here really enjoy seeing people leave with hope and joy.

After mom rang the bell, her emotions overcame her as we prayed in the waiting room. We stoped by the radiation check in area and said goodbye to the women there…then stopped by the cafeteria and said goodbye to the friends mom made there.

There is a tough guy who works behind the counter who never smiled at me. He wears a big diamond earring, and kind of looks like snoop dogg.

Well when mom walked in with me one day, the guy had the biggest smile for her…apparently, mom talked to him one day.

When we walked in today, he threw his hands up and said “Hello! ” with the biggest smile of the trip. It was so cool to see how many lives mom had touched with her constant upbeat attitude, and spirit.

Again…this could not have been done without all of your prayers and support. You will never know how much the kind words and prayers have carried us all through this stressful time

As in the poem “footprints”… you have carried us.

sleepless night

Mom was so cute last night. She kept waking up every hour to get ready to go to her radiation appointment. She kept saying ” It’s my last day!”. Even though by 5am I was getting a little irritated…I wouldn’t have missed that look for the world! :-)

Mom is trying pack right now, tried to eat jello for breakfast as a treat, but couldn’t hold it down.

Countdown to last radiation 3 hour 47 minutes…
